Importance of beekeeping in Turkey:

Turkey due to the different climate zones and geography bee has a very rich and diverse flora. Because of this feature, it ranks 4th in the world with 3.5 million colonies in terms of colony existence after China, USA and Mexico. Turkey's total honey production is 65,000 tons. 4.000 - 8.000 tons of this is going to be exported. Currently 38,000 families produce honey and other bee products by beekeeping. 10,000 of these families earn their living only from beekeeping, while the other 28,000 families produce bee products as a side income.

However, the average honey yield per colony in the country is around 15 - 17 kg, and it is 1/3 of the yield in developed countries in beekeeping. The beekeeping potential of Turkey today, what can be produced are suitable for producing at least 5-10 times. There is no such possibility in any other agricultural product. Since there is no need for land for beekeeping, its development does not require the narrowing of the areas of other agricultural products.

Growth in beekeeping will be by increasing the number of colonies and increasing the present honey yield per colony 2 -3 times. The condition of getting 2-3 times more yield per colony is to beekeeping with high-yielding breeding bee breeds as in every product.
