Animal husbandry has an important place in the economy of our country. The livestock sector fulfills important functions in terms of providing input to the industry, creating employment opportunities, increasing exports and most importantly, providing healthy, adequate and balanced nutrition opportunities to the society.

Within the scope of the program for the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the World Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) support research on increasing agricultural and animal production, efficient use of food and feed resources, and ensuring food security of the society. There have been many developments in animal husbandry with the use of nuclear techniques to date. Nuclear techniques used in animal husbandry are sensitive and unique to be compared with other techniques, results are obtained in a short time, and are accurate and precise.

Nuclear techniques find wide application in improving livestock and increasing animal production. With the use of radioisotope marking techniques, significant advances have been made in animal nutrition, in the monitoring of animal reproduction and in the diagnosis of diseases. Nuclear techniques used in practice can be divided into two main groups. The first is the tracking technique used by marking with radioisotopes without changing the chemical and physical properties of the substances (feed, biological material, etc.), and the other is the irradiation technique applied to modify some properties of the substances.
